God Is Good

Confession time: I have been struggling lately, or should I say, Satan has been attacking my mind lately with negativity…. “You will never loose the weight, you will never graduate, you will never have any more kids, your not being a good wife or mother, you and Sean are not making a difference here in O’Donnell, etc”… Lovely I know. Well tonight we had Freedom. This is where the youth groups from O’Donnell, Lamesa, Welch, and Gail all meet and have youth together. We rotate from town to town once a month. We feed everyone then Sean’s band leads worship and then there is a speaker. Well tonight the band played a new song they wrote that I have never heard. The lyrics are….

V1
AS I LOOK ACROSS THIS WASTELAND,
MY BODY GROWS TIRED AND WEAK
OF THE THINGS THAT HAPPENED HERE, I CAN’T BEAR TO SPEAK
I RETRACE MY STEPS TO FIND OUT WHERE IT ALL WENT WRONG
IT HAPPENED IN AN INSTANT, DIDN’T REALLY TAKE THAT LONG
IN THIS BATTLE FOR MY MIND, THE WAR FOR MY SOUL
IN THIS BATTLE FOR MY MIND, THE WAR FOR MY SOUL
V2
EVERY TIME I TURN AROUND A BATTLE IS CLOSE AT HAND
I FIND MYSELF WONDERING IF I’LL STILL BE ABLE TO STAND YOU’VE BROUGHT ME OUT OF DARKNESS INTO ETERNAL LIGHT SO I’LL TAKE UP YOUR ARMOR LORD, STAND FOR YOU AND FIGHT
THIS BATTLE FOR MY MIND, THE WAR FOR MY SOUL
THIS BATTLE FOR MY MIND, THE WAR FOR MY SOUL
CHORUS
BUT MY SOUL BELONGS TO THE FATHER ABOVE
SO I’LL FIGHT THE BATTLE FOR MY MIND
I STRUGGLE TO FIND THE STRENGTH INSIDE
FROM MY WEAKNESS, I CAN’T HIDE

BUT BECAUSE OF HIS UNBELIEVABLE LOVE,
BUT BECAUSE OF HIS UNBELIEVABLE LOVE,
……I’VE ALREADY WON THE WAR

Ephesians 6:12-13 says… For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
My life application notes say….
These who are not “flesh and blood” are demons over whom Satan has control. They are not mere fantasies- they are very real. We face a powerful army whose goal is to defeat Christ’s church. When we believe in Christ, these beings become our enemies, and they try every device to turn us away from Him and back to sin. Although we are assured of victory, we must engage in the struggle until Christ returns, because Satan is constantly battling against all who are on the Lord’s side…….

How easy I find myself falling into the traps set before me when these thoughts come. But how AWESOME is it for God to show up at freedom to remind me He is still here. (Which I could insert another song… Be Still and Know I’m Here) I am so full of music. I know that doesn’t surprise the ones of you who know me..…. Anyway, I was running power point tonight and the thoughts of “Ya’ll aren’t making a difference at all. The kids are just messing around and not even paying attention” kept running though my mind. Just then Sean begins to play “Hear I Am To Worship” and what do you know, I look up and the O’Donnell kids are on their feet, with their hand in the air, eyes closed truly worshiping our Father. In that moment I knew that sometimes it’s not always about numbers, it’s about the impact the God is making in our faithful few and, don’t underestimate our youth for I believe that they will one day be strong, courageous, bold, men and women of God. We may not be making a difference but GOD IS!!!

There is a battle for my mind but….I’ve already won the war!!!

Proposal

I was thinking today about the day Sean proposed and I thought I would share it with ya’ll. It was July 1, 2006. Sean and I had been dating for about four months. My mom and some of my girlfriends and I went to spend the day in Abilene for a girl’s day out and that evening we were all going to get together at Sean’s house in O’Donnell for a cookout. Nothing extravagant, I had just invited a few of our friends, and Eric and Sean were going to play their guitars and sing a little. I was nervous about this because I wanted everything to be perfect. This was the first time my mom was going to meet Sean. I had gone over and helped him clean from top to bottom. I sat at my Nanny’s kitchen table and made a grocery list; the guys said they would go shopping and do all the cooking. We had a fabulous day and when we had reached Lamesa we got a call from Eric. He needed Kasee and me to run through Welch and get his guitar and music from the church, he had forgotten it. These really irritated me because we were already running late, and leave it to Eric to make me run later. Kasee and I unlocked the doors and she told me to go get the Guitar off the front pew and she would go to Eric’s office and get the music. Well, I opened the Sanctuary doors and there was Sean standing on stage surrounded by roses and candles. Immediately I began to pour tears. I finally made my way to the front. We gave each other a hug and when I turned around the church was filled with about 75 of our closest friends and family. Everyone was in on the surprise. They had all parked their cars at the school. Sean then proceeded to read a part of a letter I had wrote him when he was on his Walk to Emmaus and a portion of his journal entry he wrote when we had only been dating a few weeks. He then played and sang a song he wrote for me then got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Also, there was no intention of having a cookout at Sean’s. He let me help him clean his house as part of his plan… how convenient. Instead of the barbeque, the two of us went to dinner in Lubbock at Olive Garden. Sean had called ahead and had them reserve a table for us and they did one better; they closed off a whole section. It was soooo romantic.
